A Long Journey

From water to clouds to drops of rain,
From coal to diamonds to a pendant at the end of a glittering gold chain,
From the deep blue seawater to a pristine white mountain of salt,
From the Earth’s crust to a battery somewhere goes a deposit of cobalt,
They are all travellers,
On a long magical journey of some sort.

From a shy spark of fire to dancing flames no more demure,
From a tiny grain of sand to becoming the chiselled mountain’s contours,
From a seed in Timbuktoo to an apple orchard next door,
From the pollen somewhere to the pretty flowers on bridal couture,
They are all travellers,
On a long magical journey for sure.

The next time we are on a bus, train or a plane,
And say, “Oh! This journey is taking too long”, and mumble under our breath, whine and complain,
Let’s think of all the magic that can unfold,
And of all the wonders, a long journey can hold.
